May the Way by Paved for You | Location Scouting Help in Utah

Getting out before a session to physically scout your location is not always the easiest.  When I started doing photography in 2009, I was busy with school, full time, and doing shoots between film projects, homework and editing. By 2011, I still had school full time, and my schedule was PACKED! I did 35 weddings that year, on top of a hundred more of other sessions like seniors, headshots, families, bridals, engagements and babies. Then there was all of the custom slideshows, wedding albums, sign in books, cd's to burn, galleries to upload and of course... all the editing. Up til 2 am editing! I legit had a full plate. Preparing and Planning for an Engagement Session

Today I am sharing a really fun shoot that I got to do with my brother and his wife.  One of the things about being a wedding and portrait photographer is you typically bring your work to your family and they are ready to hire you because they are so familiar with your work!  As I already know my brother pretty well haha, I had a starter idea of what to look for. Valentine's Photo Backdrop Ideas

We found these cute felt hearts at Micheals craft store is a neat set and I pulled out some Valentine Dove chocolates and candy kisses for some additional cuteness. Photography by: http://effervescentmediaworks.com Photography by Effervescent Media Works This was shot inside my basement home studio a few years ago.  A temporary setting for many shoots that I did but it worked just great for what I needed. For the backdrop I used the following: Silver Linings Backdrop Shoppe : http://www.silverliningphotodrops.com/Damask_Swirls_Patterns.php A large old branch I found in my neighborhood (twice a year there are clean up weeks where people leave piles of yard waste and junk they want to get rid of)  Score! Trash to treasure 2 deep red felt sheets for...

DIY Flower laced Swing

This last summer I got to help with a few projects for my brothers' wedding!  They had a very fun vintage themed wedding with a touch of retro 1950's flair mixed in.  And in our family, we are BIG into DIY as that is half the fun!  In the spring I decided to try making a swing myself when I saw this old piece of 2 x 6 in the garage.  It was even dirtier than that but I cleaned it up a bit leaving just enough dirt to maintain the character of the wood. The items I used for this project: 1 2x6x24.5 inch board I un-buried from the garage! (Trash to treasure woohoo) A table drill machine to cut...
